Caroline + Gabriel | Columbia State House

one of the best things about the state house? it’s completely free to use for photography sessions

There is no rulebook for how your wedding day is supposed to look. caroline + gabriel are proof of that — and honestly, photographing them reminded me of everything i love about this work.

they got married in a church surrounded by their closest people. it was intimate, it was personal, and it was exactly them. they wanted minimal coverage inside the church — just a few quiet, genuine moments with the people they love most. no grand timeline, no hour-long ceremony coverage. just what felt right.

after the ceremony, we headed to the south carolina state house in columbia for family photos and bridal portraits — and i could have stayed there all day. the architecture, the light, the grounds… it was stunning at every turn. if you’re a south carolina couple and you haven’t considered this as a portrait location, i really hope you will after seeing these.

one of the best things about the state house? it’s completely free to use for photography sessions. all you need to do is reach out to the state house directly and schedule a 1.5-hour time slot — and if that feels overwhelming, i’m always happy to help my couples navigate that process. it’s honestly such an easy, gorgeous backdrop that i think more people should know about.

after our time together, caroline + gabriel went off to an intimate dinner — just the two of them. no photographer, no timeline. just a celebration that was entirely theirs.

i think about this day a lot when couples ask me what their wedding has to look like. the answer is: anything you want. your day doesn’t have to follow a template. you can have a full church ceremony and skip the reception. you can do portraits at a state landmark and spend your evening quietly. you can have me for two hours or ten. what matters is that the day actually feels like you.

if you’re dreaming up something that doesn’t quite fit the mold — i would genuinely love to hear about it.
